- Public TitleEffectiveness exercise therapy in beginning non-specific work-related upper limb disorders (WRULD).
- Scientific TitlePostural exercise therapy according to Cesar/Mensendieck and physiotherapy are equally effective on beginning non-specific work-related upper limb disorders in VDU-workers; a controlled, randomized trial with follow-up of one year.
- hypothesisIs postural exercise therapy according to Cesar/Mensendieck more effective in reducing pain, improving functional level and health related quality of life in VDU-workers with beginning non-specific work-related upper limb disorders (WRULD) when compared to usual physiotherapy?
- Healt Condition(s) or Problem(s) studiedEfficacy, Randomised study, Non-specific work-related upper limb disorders, VDU-workers, Early intervention, Exercise therapy
- Inclusion criteria1. Being VDU-worker (at least 4 hours PC per day) at the time of first complaints and being employed in present job for at least 3 months;
2. Non-specific WRULD symptoms exist > 2 weeks and< 3 months and are purely related to PC work; aged between 20-45 years.
- Exclusion criteria1. WRULD symptoms during other daily activities;
2. Specific WRULD;
3. Patients with other diseases of loco motor apparatus;

- Primary outcome1. VAS (horizontal numerical visual analogous 10 cm scale) according to Jensen;
2. Dichotomous question: do you still suffer from WRULD? Yes/no.

- Brief summaryVDU-workers with beginning non-specific WRULD have been randomly assigned to the experimental group Cesar/Mensendieck or usual physiotherapy (control group). At each measurement moment at 3,6,and 12 months after baseline nearly no significant differences in outcome measures could be found between both groups neither on impairment level nor on level of disability or health related quality of life. One year after start of early intervention about 55% of both groups is free of complaints.
