1. Diagnosis of type 2 diabetes for < 6 months before enrollment;
2. Diagnosis of impaired glucose tolerance for < 6 months before enrollment.
- Exclusion criteriaPatients who had thyroid disorders, or used insulin, oral hypoglycemics, insulin-sensitizing drugs, and â-blockers within 60 days before enrollment were excluded.

- InterventionsThe test meal consisted of 50 g oral glucose tolerance test with added 6.9 g lactose ingested with 15 capsules with cinnamon. The reference meal consisted of 50 g oral glucose tolerance test ingested with 15 placebo capsules. The meals were served in random order at intervals of 1 week. Randomization was performed using a table of random numbers.
