- hypothesisIncreased physical exercise of patients with a prostate carcinoma has a positive effect on quality of life.
- Healt Condition(s) or Problem(s) studiedPhysical activity, Prostatic neoplasms, Quality of life
- Inclusion criteriaPatients with a prostate carcinoma qualify for participation in the research if they receive a treatment for:
- external radiotherapy, stage T2-T3
- palliative hormonal therapy
- palliative chemotherapy
between January and December 2017 in Franciscus Gasthuis
- Exclusion criteria1. Insufficient ability to speak Dutch
2. Patients with a phyiscal disorder that strongly limits the possibility for physical exercises (e.g. Parkison's disease, wheel chair), as judged by the research coordinator.

- InterventionsIncreased physical exercise intervention. Patient and relatives receive physical exercise advice from the oncology nurse. It is adviced that patients practice moderate intensive physical exercise (e.g. walking or cycling) 4 to 6 times per week for at least 30 minutes. The patient's experiences are discussed during the regular contact moments in the hospital or during phone calls, in which any obstacles are solved in mutual consultation. Basis of Onco-Move is self-management; the physical exercise intervention should be practiced at home without supervision.
The patients in the control group receive normal care without the intervention.
- Primary outcomeThe intervention is focussed on prevention and/or reduction of physical condition loss and tiredness during the treatment.
- Secondary outcomeImproved quality of life.
- TimepointsZero measurement before randomisation and start of the treatment. Second measurement 6 to 7 months after the start of the treatment.

- Brief summaryIn this research we measure the effect of physical exercise on life quality of patients with a prostate carcinoma.
The participating patients are inlaid into a research group with physical exercise intervention or the control group with normal care.
The physical exercise intervention consist of: Patient and relatives receive physical exercise advice from the oncology nurse. Basis of the intervention is self-management; the physical exercise intervention should be practiced at home without supervision.
In both groups ther will be a zero measurement before randomisation and start of the treatment. Second measurement 6 to 7 months after the start of the treatment.
