- Brief summaryOnly a limited number of school-based lifestyle interventions have been developed for Vocational, Education and Training (VET) students. Under the leadership of the Research Group Healthy Lifestyle in a Supporting Environment at The Hague University of Applied Sciences, partners from education (ROC Mondriaan vocational school), research (Technical University Delft) and practice (“Frens Pries” design agency, The Hague Municipal Health Service, “Sportief Besteed” sport agency) develop, implement, and evaluate an environmental lifestyle intervention for VET students. In the first phase of the project in depth insights were gained on VET students’ perceptions of a healthy lifestyle using Contextmapping. These outcomes were used to inspire the iterative design process of the intervention in co-creation with students, other stakeholders and designers. The implementation and evaluation of the Healthy by Design (HbD) lifestyle intervention will start at ROC Mondriaan VET school in the 2017-2018 school year. The intervention program will be conducted for and by VET students under supervision of a HbD coordinator and consists of two parts: an internship program and a (social) media campaign. Lifestyle, Sport & Exercise students will give advice and individual support to fellow students who wish to improve their lifestyle, as part of their training. Furthermore they organize sports afternoons and fit day for the whole school location. The interns are also the distributors of the (social) media campaign. Through the use of challenges and informative messages via social media, and posters in the physical school environment they aim to improve a healthy lifestyle within the context of their everyday lives.
